If you’re considering therapy you probably want to change. You may want to change your feelings. Or change your relationship. Or your functioning in a specific area of your life such as work, social life or finances.
During my fifteen years as a therapist I’ve learned a lot about what allows us to create change. Surprisingly, the first part of creating change is to simply to face the current situation. That’s because one of the main roadblocks to change is avoidance of pain and discomfort. When we face our lives and ourselves including the things we really don’t like about our current situation, we remove the roadblock of avoidance.
